Plantable Washi paper launched in 2022

Plantable “Hanasaku (blooming)” Washi Paper was launched in 2022, in collaboration with a Japanese Washi paper manufacturer with a 400-year history in Yamanashi, Japan.

It is made from 100% recycled paper from business and industry in Japan, naturally white without bleaching, handmade and sun dried. Non-GMO flower seeds such as German Chamomile, Chrysanthemum and Viola are embedded in the paper. 

Craft Washi paper was developed with Imura Envelope Co., one of Japan’s top envelope manufacturers. This plantable craft paper is made of the byproducts of envelope production.

We are expanding our production capabilities by working closely with welfare stations in Nagano and Kanagawa, where disabled employees are making paper by hand, printing, die-cutting to finish seed paper products.

Specs

There are three types of Hanasaku Washi paper: White, Sakura (cherry blossom), and Craft.  German chamomile's tiny seeds are embedded in White and Sakura papers, which makes the paper smooth like Washi paper.  White has another choice: Bees Mix, which is a mix of Chrysanthemum, Alyssum and Viola, bees' favorite flowers.

About plantable Washi paper

Please read before making inquiries.

Do you offer print services on plantable paper?

Yes, we offer printing services on seed paper / Hanasaku Washi paper. It can be printed by inkjet or letterpress.

Is digital printing available?

Seed paper can not be printed by high-temperature toner printing or off-set printing because it damages germination. Inkjet printing is highly recommended.
 

Can we choose seed varieties?

Seed varieties are chosen carefully to fit most countries in the world. Custom seed paper can be done, but minimum order quantity is 100 full-size sheets. Also, some seed varieties are not suitable to make seed paper. Please feel free to ask questions.

What is the germination viability period of the products?

Germination of most seed paper is possible for 2 years after production. However, successful germination depends on temperature, water, storage, and other environmental factors. We recommend that seed paper be planted as soon as possible during the best sowing seasons for your area.

What kind of seeds do you use?

Seed paper uses natural, unsterilized and Non-GMO seeds. We do not use hybrid, organic or GMO seeds.

Do you ship overseas?

We can ship internationally, but each country has different plant control regulations. Please feel free to ask questions.

How long is the delivery time?

For orders up to 1000 pieces, we ship within 3 weeks. For up to 10,000 pieces, 8 weeks.  Please be sure to also consider shipping time, including custom inspection period once the order arrives in your country.

What is the minimum order quantity?

Minimum order quantity within Japan is either 200 pcs or 500 pcs, depending on product. Minimum order quantity for international orders is usually 1000 pcs. Please feel free to contact us for a quote.
